Kitchen Cabinet Makeover

I have always loved the open shelf concept for kitchens. I have pinned so many examples of great open air shelves, but have never felt a call to action. That all changed a couple weeks ago when I came across interior designer Emily A. Clark's kitchen makeover. I bet you'll also enjoy her lovely shelves below.

After reading about Emily's easy kitchen cabinet makeover, I decided now is the time. Within minutes, Ben had the cabinets doors off using my lovely pink power drill. (I'm so glad he was game for removing these. I thought I would at least get some push back.)

This is Ben deciding whether or not it would be a good idea to go doorless...

Progress

After removing the cabinet doors, I thought the shelving area needed more impact, so I took Emily A. Clark's advice and added contrasting color to the cabinet walls.

After

I used adhesive shelf liner from The Macbeth Collection to cover the cabinet walls. I wanted a brown pattern and this half zebra / half chevron-like print was what was available at TJ Maxx, so I went with it. Overall, I'm very pleased with the way it turned out. The bold pattern and showcase of dishes adds so much more interest to my kitchen area. It is definitely a delightful change!

The part about this project was the cost. I only spent $14 ($5.99 for the adhesive shelf liner and $7.99 for the new wire basket above the cabinet). Luckily, I already owned all white dishes and had a ton of random glass servingware.

So what do you think? Are loving open air shelves as much as I am?
